What is an example of probable cause?

What will be an ideal response?

Probable cause is the standard for a legal arrest. Basically, for an officer to make an arrest, he or she must have more than a mere hunch yet less than actual knowledge that the arrestee committed the crime. One example of probable cause that is provided in the text refers to a situation involving the rape of a 55-year-old woman. Based on information provided by the victim, including her response to a photograph lineup, officers went to the suspect’s home to question him. Observations at the scene that corresponded to the victim’s information provided sufficient probable cause for the officers to make a warrantless arrest.
