Describe Hooke's Law.

What will be an ideal response?

In the early stages of tensile testing, a plot shows a straight line indicating that the relationship between the stress applied and the change of length of the material (strain) is linear. In this part of the plot, the relationship obeys Hooke's law:
s/e = E
Where E is the slope of the plot in this region; where (s) is stress and it is proportional to strain (e). This slope, or E, is called the modulus of elasticity or Young's modulus and it is found by dividing stress by strain.
