Compare and contrast the characteristics of resilient and non-resilient children.
What will be an ideal response?
Resilient children often have emotionally responsive parents that help them deal with stressors in their lives. Also, they tend to have an inborn character that elicits positive responses from adults. These children are often affectionate, good-natured, and easy to deal with as infants. They have a close bond with at least one caregiver, enabling them to establish a basic sense of trust. As preschoolers, they often show independence—playing vigorously, seeking out new experiences, showing fearlessness, and being self-reliant. In contrast, non-resilient children often have parents that don’t validate their emotions. As a result, these children have difficulty processing their emotions when dealing with stress. They often do not form a close bond with an adult. As a result, they have difficulty trusting people. As preschoolers, they can have trouble relating constructively with other children. Also, they can be plagued with insecurities.
