Describe how ceiling panels are typically installed when installing gypsum wallboard.
What will be an ideal response?
Ceiling panels are installed first and run perpendicular or parallel to joists, depending on which method produces the fewest joints. Panels may be single or double nailed. Nails on single-nailed ceilings are usually spaced 7 in. (178 mm) O.C. and 8 in. (203 mm) O.C. on side walls. Screws are spaced 12 in. (305 mm) on a ceiling and 16 in. (406 mm) on side walls. To reduce the possibility of nail popping after a wall is finished, panels can be double nailed. Fasteners are driven until their heads are set in shallow dimples without breaking the paper covering. Nails are driven with a drywall hammer with the required shape and diameter.
