Discuss instrumentation as a threat to validity.

What will be an ideal response?

Instrumentation concerns the quality of the instrument or the consistency of the instrument. An instrument that has low reliability results in an increased threat to internal validity. Scores may vary dramatically from pretest to post-test, not as a consequence of the treatment but because of the low reliability of the instrument. Researchers (Gall, et al., 1996; Creswell, 2012) have noted the problem with observational measures and internal validity. Creswell (2012) noted that with observational measures the observers may become more proficient with experience and consequently you may have differences in scores based on improvement in skill of the observers. A solution is to develop standard procedures for the observers and train the observers prior to data collection.
