In the context of the scientific method, describe how a theory is established.

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary. A theory is an explanation of a happening or circumstance that is based on observation, experimentation, and reasoning. Scientific and academic researchers observe facts and their consequences to develop hypotheses about what will occur when a similar fact pattern is present in the future. A hypothesis is a proposition that can be tested by researchers or observers to determine if it is valid. If enough authorities do find the hypothesis valid, it will be accepted as a theory. This process is known as the scientific method.
