The "S" stands for "Scrutinize Processes and Self-Correct as Needed." It is the fifth step in the IDEAS process. Step 5 includes ongoing monitoring, analyzing, and evaluating the consequences of our chosen actions or beliefs. Mid-course corrections may always be necessary, no matter what the decision. As such, this step corresponds to the critical thinking skill of self-regulation.
