Discuss the appropriate police response to youth crime and violence in our schools
What will be an ideal response?
Several states have passed laws requiring school officials to report certain types of offenses to local police. In many states failure to report violent incidents to a law enforcement agency is a criminal offense—usually a misdemeanor. Educators commonly detect and report incidents of suspected child abuse or family violence. Educators may also, however, be firsthand witnesses to and, on occasion, victims of violence, as the aggression experienced at home by some children finds its way onto school grounds. A variety of elements may lead police in a certain jurisdiction to respond to incidents of school violence.
