An anaphylactic reaction is a severe allergic reaction that occurs in previously sensitized patients. It develops almost immediately, affecting many organ systems of the body, after the patient ingests, inhales, or is injected with an antigen or is stung by an insect. Anaphylaxis is the most severe allergic reaction and often proves fatal regardless of the treatment administered.
