Huntington's disease is caused by degeneration of the caudate nucleus and the putamen. The disease is marked by uncontrollable jerky movements of the arms and legs. Huntington's disease is a hereditary disorder related to a dominant gene on chromosome 4. Parkinson's disease is associated with neurodegeneration of the nigrostriatal dopamine system and involves tremors at rest, muscle rigidity, slowness of movement, and postural instability.
