CBITS is a school-based group and individual intervention designed to reduce trauma-related symptoms and improve school functioning and coping skills among students. It is aimed at students in the 5th to 12th grades. This intervention has been used with children who have experienced a variety of trauma, including physical abuse and domestic violence. It incorporates cognitive behavioral skills through didactic presentation, relevant and age-appropriate games, and individual homework sheets. Sessions are aimed at providing psychoeducation about reactions to stress and trauma, teaching cognitive coping, and providing opportunities to practice these skills. This group therapy approach has been proven to have significant improvements in post-traumatic stress and depressive symptoms.
