Briefly describe the formation of a natural levee. How is this feature related to back swamps and yazoo tributaries?
What will be an ideal response?
Natural levees are built by successive floods. When a stream overflows its banks, it leaves coarse sediment deposited in strips bordering the channel. These strips are natural levees. The area behind the levee is poorly drained, which causes back swamps to develop. Streams that are blocked from entering the main channel by these levees are called yazoo tributaries.
