From an evolutionary perspective, explain how three species of large, flightless birds (ostriches, rheas, and emus) came to occupy the widely separated landmasses of Africa, South America, and Australia

What will be an ideal response?

All of these birds evolved from a common "ratite" ancestor that lived on the supercontinent called Gondwana. In response to the extreme geographic isolation resulting from continental drift, allopatric speciation occurred and resulted in the three unique ratite species that are now found on the three different continents.
