What is financial planning? What, if any, are the pitfalls of not taking the step of financial planning?

The process of determining how an individual will achieve their future goals. For many people financial planning is very scary. The proper financial planning clears away all the complexity and makes it simple. Plus, there so many pitfalls to poor financial planning that it makes it so important. Some of those pitfalls that prevent people from taking the next steps are fear of bankruptcies, student debt, moving back home, divorce or fighting over money, being uninformed, and assuming only wealthy people have the advantages.
