Briefly describe the sequence of instruction when teaching students about the coordinate system and functions. 5. Complete the statement: Coordinate system
What will be an ideal response?
At the beginning levels, only positive integers are used. Students find the x-value and y-value for given points on a coordinate system. After several lessons on finding values, students plot points on the coordinate system given the values. Next, students learn to complete a function table and plot the points on a coordinate system. After several lessons on completing function tables, students are ready to derive the function when given two pairs of values. Students are then taught to plot points from the function table on the coordinate system and draw a line. Later, the teacher would teach students how to derive the function when given points on the coordinate system connected by lines.
