What are the four steps for correct perception checking and the reasons for each step?
What will be an ideal response?
Step 1: Determine the exact behavior triggering perception. Reason: We often confuse
behavior and interpretation. Step 2: Identify initial interpretation and other possible
interpretations. Reason: Nonverbal communication may have a number of meanings, so we must
be aware of assumptions. Step 3: Non-judgmentally describe the behavior observed as well as
possible interpretations. Reason: Check accuracy of your perception while making the other
person aware of what his or her behavior communicated to you. Step 4: Ask for verification or
correction of perceptions. Reason: Invite dialogue.
