Define the term bilingual education. Describe some of the various forms that bilingual education programs may take
What will be an ideal response?
ANS: Bilingual education is the education of English-language learners by teaching them at least part of the time in their native language. One approach is immersion, in which ELLs are placed into English-only classes without any native-language communication. Another approach is for the student to spend part of her or his time being taught in the native language, supplemented by ESL classes to help in learning English. Two-way or dual-language programs are taught in more than one language, so that both language-minority and native English-speaking students become fluent in both languages.
