Identify the advantages of incumbency in congressional elections.
What will be an ideal response?
Incumbents, who are highly likely to be returned to congressional office, enjoy a series of advantages over their challengers. These include stronger name recognition, easier access to media coverage, redistricting that favors incumbents, franking (or being able to mail for free), easier access to campaign contributions, and repayment for casework. Incumbents generally are able to raise far more money as a result, and usually win reelection.
