Discuss the disappearing of the middle class in the United States.

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: Varies. The middle class has been shrinking for the past several decades. This is due to the changes in the workforce and job opportunities for college-educated people. A rising proportion of middle-level jobs have converted from relatively stable and secure long-term positions to contractual work. Technological advances also impacted job or career opportunities that would have placed individuals into the middle class. Those jobs are no longer available or pay lower wages. Therefore, these Americans have not been able to afford homes, which is the way majority of Americans develop wealth. The stratification of the U.S. labor force into a low-wage service sector, heavily tilted toward jobs in hospitality, retail, and security, and a well-paid knowledge and technology sector with clear orientation toward the highly educated appears to be continuing unabated.
