Why is it important for prosecutors and defense attorneys to be cognizant of each and every element of a crime?

What will be an ideal response?

In order for the commission of a crime to be proven, the law requires proof of each element of the crime beyond a reasonable doubt. If the prosecutor fails to prove even one element, commission of the crime has not been proven.
