Explain why it is important to teach children about consumption

What will be an ideal response?

Children become consumers as soon as they are born. They consume goods and services, express needs and wants, and later make choices about what they want. The goal is to help children understand that they are consumers too. The teacher's role is to help children understand how to make responsible choices as a consumer. Children need to understand their role in consumption and their role in making those decisions in their families. Being informed about goods and services contributes to personal efficacy i.e. being able to make wise choices (Alleman & Brophy, 2003). When they make purchases, they are consumers.
