?Beginning on January 1, 2011 the European Union EU 2006/40/EC Act provisions went into effect, though the deadline was extended to January 1, 2013 due to lack of a readily available supply of a new refrigerant. This law was designed to phase out global warming refrigerants with complete phase out of R134a in European by January 1, 2017 for new vehicles sold in EU member countries. The act requires all new automotive platform refrigerant systems to use a refrigerant with a global warming potential (GWP) that is not to exceed 150.
