Why do the introduction and conclusion of a speech require special consideration when preparing and delivering a speech?
What will be an ideal response?
Students should be able to articulate why they are important in their own words. For the introduction, they should include some version of the idea that intros make an audience more willing to listen, think more highly of the speaker (credibility) and helping the audience understand the speech better (clarity). For the conclusion, they should include some version of the idea of reinforcing the thesis, reminding listeners of main points, and framing the speaker's ideas and arguments in their own way. They should check pgs. 171-172 for a summary (or other aspects) of the chapter.
