Debate pros and cons of the Recover Audit Contractors (RAC) who have been hired by Medicare to audit providers of Medicare patients.

What will be an ideal response?

Pros: Having the RAC auditors come in will allow the staff to be compliant and prepared at all times. Knowing that the RAC auditors are around gives you more incentive to maintain compliance. RAC auditors will find noncompliant and fraudulent activity to return to Medicare as appropriate.
Cons: RAC auditors can take time away from staff even if they are in compliance and doing the right thing. The office may be given fines or even inprisonment if the staff is found noncompliant. The RAC auditors are there to find mistakes. They will find mistakes if they exist, so the staff must maintain
compliance at all times.
