Discuss the tradeoffs involved in reducing "pork-barrel spending" in the Congress.

What will be an ideal response?

Pork-barrel spending is relatively low as part of Federal spending. However, one person's pork is another person's necessary bridge or highway. When Congress reduces its use of earmarking and pork spending, it becomes less representative, and it becomes harder for members of Congress to get support for each other's proposals. Eliminating pork reduces waste in government, but it also more powerfully centralizes Congress.
