What challenges did Robert face moving back into the community after he was released from prison?

While working as a probation officer for the U.S. District Courts, Megan Romanowski, BSW, was given the task of supervising parolee Robert Sanchez. Robert adjusted well to the community setting—he had a stable job and living situation—and even developed a good working relationship with Megan. But when Robert was involved in another robbery, Megan was forced to make a decision about what to recommend to the judge regarding his sentence.

Robert faced one of the challenges many clients face when leaving the criminal justice system: finding supportive relationships that do not encourage or condone criminal behavior. For example, many of the relationships Robert had developed prior to entering prison were based on criminal activities. Robert was challenged to develop new, positive relationships, that did not lead him back to criminal activities.
He also had financial challenges, such as finding stable and affordable housing and, hampered by a criminal record, locating and maintaining stable employment.
