Explain the properties of social ties and networks

The connections between two people in a network are called ties. Social ties represent the relationships between people. As would be expected, whom people are linked to, how people are linked, and the influence of those relationships differ. Persons can belong to multiple social networks, within both formal structures (e.g., work and places of worship) and informal structures (e.g., family and friends). Social ties also vary across a life span. As members age, couple, uncouple, build families, work, and relocate, so does their network. Location of the actors and the ties that indicate their relationships are the framework of study in social network theory. Within a network, actors hold different positions and locations. An individual's location in the network and his or her ties with others affect his or her behaviors, perceptions, and attitudes. Centrality is the degree to which a person is centrally located in a network. There is often a person or persons at the middle of the network around whom much of the network's activities occur.?
