What are rape shield laws, and why do we need rape shield laws? How are these laws related to victim blaming discussed in Chapter 2?
What will be an ideal response?
Rape shield laws are designed to limit the introduction of a victim's sexual history into the court process. These laws are supposed to protect the victim from public scrutiny by prohibiting the media from identifying them and prohibiting evidence of past sexual history from being introduced into evidence in the court. The courts (as well as society) have used the past sexual history of a rape victim to blame her for the rape.
