In general, a person is eligible for Medicare Part A if the person, or spouse, has worked for at least 10 years in Medicare-covered employment, is 65 years old, and is a citizen or permanent resident of the Unites States. Eligibility also extends to certain individuals under age 65 who are disabled or who have chronic kidney disease (ESRD).
