What is your opinion of the use of celebrities and special events to call attention to worthy causes that might otherwise go unnoticed?
What will be an ideal response?
The use of celebrities and special events is a kind of double-edged sword. While
such tactics may generate publicity on behalf of a particular cause, much of the
public attention remains focused on the celebrity or the event. There is also the
danger of having anything that reflects badly upon a celebrity or event also
reflecting badly on the cause. At best, celebrities and events help to grab the
public's attention. Once that is done, it is up to the message to hold that
attention.

You would like your audience members to get their pets neutered, but you expect them to feel apathetic about your appeal. Which approach is likely to work best for an apathetic audience?
A) Start with a statement that all pets should be neutered; then support this statement with reasons. B) List several reasons for neutering pets, then end with a statement that pets should be neutered. C) Start with an example of a pet that was neutered, then state your generalization, then add more examples. D) First explain the significance of the issue (neutering can prevent needless suffering of unwanted pets); then explain how audience members can help reduce suffering by neutering their own pets. E) All of the above would be equally effective for an apathetic audience.
