Being a mediated citizen has its benefits, but it also has its drawbacks. Discuss what it means to be a mediated citizen in today’s America. What is an advantage of being a mediated citizen? What is a drawback?
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: Being a mediated citizen is an effect of having so much information available at all times. Whether through the television or newsfeeds on our phones, the interconnectedness and ability to get updates on politics and world events in realtime is what makes us mediated citizens. Being connected and having so many sources readily available means that we can, as mediated citizens, pop our information bubble and diversify our points of view. A drawback to being a mediated citizen, though, is that many of us fall victim to curated news feeds that leave us vulnerable to being manipulated by stories that may not be completely factual or discuss every side of the story.
