Compare and contrast the SQ3R and the 3R active reading methods
What will be an ideal response?
The 3R method refers to read, recite, and review. After reading a short reading passage, students need to stop and recall what they remember from this section of the text. While students can do this via thinking, writing it down will help create notes from which to study. After recalling what can be remembered (without looking at your notes) in the recite stage, students then go back and review the passage again. They can then add in missed information into their notes. This process uses a very effective memory tool called retrieval practice. The SQ3R process is very similar but adds two steps to this process. Before engaging in the read, recite, review process, student's first need to survey the chapter or reading assignment and then needs to identify or create questions about the chapter content.
