Discuss pretest sensitization.
What will be an ideal response?
Pretest sensitization is another threat to ecological external validity and involves the participants becoming aware of the desired response to the dependent variable (Ary, et al., 2014; Kaufman & Kaufman, 2005). In situations where the dependent variable is a self-report, it is possible for pre-test sensitization to occur which impacts their responses on the post-test (e.g. informs them how to respond). With self-report measures, it is possible for participants to actually foster learning and subsequently alter their responses (Moore, 1983). The solution to resolving this problem is to use either a post-test only design or a Solomon Four-Group Design (a combination of a pre-test post-test design and a post-test only design). With the Solomon-Four group design, the researcher can determine the effects of pretesting on responses.
