Describe an activity in which computers can be used to support the development of literacy
What will be an ideal response?
Responses will vary. Generally, the activity should demonstrate an awareness of the criteria for appropriate computer use. The responses should focus on using computers to encourage children to produce language. Literature-related Web sites on the Internet can bring additional information about authors and illustrators. Research has shown that repeated storybook reading using computer versions can have benefits within the context of multiple literacies. When combined with traditional and LEA readings, they can reinforce other reading concepts such as the oral language of the reader, left to right, and turning the pages of a book. Websites can also provide dramatic readings of some picture books.
