Explain the difference between crime prevention and crime control, and the effect of each on efforts to prevent crime victimization. Give examples for each
What will be an ideal response?
Crime prevention is a pattern of attitudes and behaviors direct reducing the threat of crime and enhancing the sense of safety and security to positively influence the quality of life and to develop environments where crime cannot flourish (see pg. 40 in text). Crime control is an attempt to regulate and confine the amount of criminal behavior that occurs and seeks to eliminate the causes of crime (see page 41 in text). Crime prevention seeks to influence the reasons someone commits a crime and to prevent future crimes. Since crime cannot be completely eliminated, then society tries to control it, i.e. crime control.
