Ans: Value-added theory: micro- and macro-level factors each contribute something of value to the outcome and must converge in order for collective behavior to occur. Contagion theories: assume that humans can revert to herdlike behavior when they come together in large crowds. Emergent norms: norms that are situationally created to support a collective action--norms develop that the crowd adheres to.
