Briefly describe how walking develops as toddlers become older preschoolers.

What will be an ideal response?

Subtle changes in walking transform the toddler, whose concern is balance rather than efficiency, to the much more graceful preschooler. As the child gets older, legs and arms alternate, toeing-out decreases, stride becomes more consistent, heels and toes rather than the flat foot are used for landing and takeoff of each step, and feet are placed so that they are more parallel.
