Discuss the use of oxygen in acute myocardial infarction

What will be an ideal response?

Suggested response: Use of oxygen by mask or nasal cannulae is part of conventional practice in the first 6 hours to raise SaO2 levels in the myocardium. However, there is no evidence of patient benefit if SaO2 levels are not decreased. The potential psychological and/or placebo benefits of oxygen provision to the patient have not been adequately investigated to form a conclusion.
