Explain three physiological benefits that are a result of the heat capacity of water
First, because water requires a large amount of heat to break the hydrogens bonds and vaporize the resulting benefit is that water is a liquid over a broad range of temperatures allowing physiological reactions to function. Second, because water absorbs a lot of heat before it vaporizes, as perspiration evaporates from the skin it takes with it a lot of heat thereby providing us with a mechanism for cooling. Third, because water requires a large amount of heat to change temperature, large bodies of water will change temperature slowly. This means that the water in the body will be slow to change overall and will provide a thermally stabilizing effect around which we can maintain our core body temperature.
