Should we continue to have separate state and federal courts? Wouldn't one unified court system make more sense and be more efficient?

What will be an ideal response?

Certainly it would be more efficient, but we have a federalist form of government and under this form of government each government has jurisdiction on certain issues and no jurisdiction on others. Accordingly it would be impractical to have only one system.
