Who are a set designer's collaborators? Who does he/she work with to realize his/her design?
What will be an ideal response?
The set designer must collaborate with the play's director to ensure that his/her design works with the director's vision for the play. He/she also must collaborate with the costume, lighting, and sound designers because all the design elements of a production need to complement each other and work together. The set designer drafts construction drawings to send to the shop. He/she relies on the technician's knowledge of materials, carpentry, or engineering to find solutions to design problems, and designers often make changes based on the technical director's suggestions. He/she works closely with technical staff to make sure that the set design matches the vision presented in his/her sketches.
