Describe the action of LSD in the brain, and relate this mode of action to the behavioral effects of the drug.

What will be an ideal response?

LSD acts on serotonin receptors in the prefrontal cortex, locus coeruleus and raphe nucleus. It produces hallucinations through an unknown mechanism, and while there is tolerance to LSD there are not withdrawal symptoms. However, some users experience flashbacks, which are unwanted visual hallucinations long after the person has stopped use of LSD.
