All societies use gender as a means of stratification. Discuss the consequences of this gender stratification
What will be an ideal response
In every society of the world, gender is a basis for social stratification. It is not the sole basis for stratifying people in any society, but it cuts across all systems of social stratification – slavery, caste, estate, class. In every society, men's earning are higher than women's earnings. Most of the world's illiterate are females. Of the several hundred million adults who cannot read, about two-thirds are women. (As mentioned in other chapters, in certain geographic areas in which the control of females by males is more evident, practices involving coercion of child brides, child prostitutes, and female circumcision are common.)
