Discuss tangible and intangible costs of victimization. How does knowing these costs help with reporting on the significance of victimization? What role do these costs play in policy development in allocating resources for underserved victims?

What will be an ideal response?

Tangible costs include costs as a direct consequence of crime, for example, crime-incurred expenses such as property damages and loss, and productivity. Productivity includes lost wages, fringe benefits, and housework and loss of schooldays of victims and their families. Also, criminal justice costs such as police investigations and incarceration and costs in preventing future crime victimization. Intangible costs such as pain, suffering, and reduced quality of life and fear of crime, as well as psychological costs to offender’s family and community, are more difficult to measure.
