What is ketosis and why is it harmful?

What will be an ideal response?

Ketosis is the rise in ketone bodies–acid by-products of incomplete breakdown of fat–in the blood. Ketone bodies reduce the pH of the blood due to inadequate carbohydrate consumption. After about 18 hours of fasting, liver glycogen is depleted and the body will begin to look for other sources, mostly stored fat, to meet the body's energy needs. If left unchecked, ketosis can progress to ketoacidosis which can lead to nervous system, liver, and kidney problems.
