Compare the two methods of preparing for ultrasonographic examination. State which method increases the diagnostic quality and lengthens probe life

What will be an ideal response?

Shaving the limb is the ideal preparation method. This is accomplished using a No. 40 clipper blade followed by a standard shaving razor. After wiping the leg with alcohol, ultrasound gel is applied. Should the owner refuse to permit clipping, an alcohol-gel slurry can be made and applied to the area of interest. The examination will be of lesser quality, and repeated attempts to perform this type of examination will decrease the life of the probe.
