How does suspended sentencing differ from probation? How are they similar?

What will be an ideal response?

Suspended sentencing is similar to probation in that they both allow for the offender to be free from incarceration. However, a suspended sentence involves stopping some formal processing of an offender; supervision is not required and offenders generally have no specified goals towards which to work. Their only obligation is to refrain from further criminal activity. Probation is a sentence that is imposed upon the offender. Offenders on probation are closely monitored and must obey any conditions imposed upon them by the court and meet specified goals until the term of probation is ended. Obviously, a suspended sentence is the more desirable option for offenders due to the limited obligations and the reduced stigma.
