Explain why students with disabilities in institutions of higher education receive less assistive technology than students in K-12 education.
What will be an ideal response?
Students with disabilities in postsecondary education may receive less assistive technology because they do not self-identify themselves as having a disability and thus are not provided assistive technology because they university does not know they are a student with a disability. They may also not request assistive technology to be provided or actually use assistive technology provided because of perceived stigmatization, or the attitudes or policies of instructors in higher education. Finally, the rates of assistive technology use may be less in institutions of higher education because students are using their own devices rather than having the university provide.
