Explain what is meant by “specialization” and how it may differ from agency to agency.

What will be an ideal response?

Specialization refers to the number of distinct units, as well as the number of supervisory levels, within an organization. As it relates to policing, generally the larger the department, the more specialization. Specialization can take the form of specialized units, like SWAT, internal affairs, or K-9. It can also take the form of supervisory levels, where we might see a very long chain of command with multiple levels of supervisors, or a simple chain of command with only two or three levels.
