Can any number of concurrent processes be protected from each other by just one pair of base/bounds registers?
What will be an ideal response?
Yes
(up
to
the
limits
of
other
machine
resources).
The
operative
word
is
concurrent.
Even
though
many
processes
are
concurrent,
only
one
is
in
active
execution
(i.e.,
using
the
CPU)
at
any
instant.
Therefore,
one
pair
of
base/bounds
registers
will
suffice
to
limit
its
addressing,
thereby
protecting
all
other
users.
Notice
that
the
security
technique
is
to
prevent
the
one
active
process
from
harming
other
users.
